WHAT ARE YOU UP TO RIGHT NOW?
Hi loves! My name is Odette and I am so thankful to be able to share my journey on A Piece of Their Story today. I am currently making my dream of being a full-time entrepreneur a reality. During the day I am a creative content and marketing specialist, and at night I am a writer for my fashion and lifestyle blog, Sparkle in Gold. I am also in the works of re-opening my Etsy shop that will showcase Gold Foil Prints, Stationary, and Apparel!
WHAT'S YOUR DAILY ROUTINE TYPICALLY LOOK LIKE ON A WEEKDAY?
With my schedule always being so hectic, starting off on a positive note is very important to me! I generally wake up at 6:30 am, drink a tall glass of water, and start my day off with prayer and meditation for 5-10 minutes. Finding that peace and balance first thing in the morning allows for my day to flow just a little bit easier! I then hop in the shower, brush my teeth, dress and get ready for the day. I currently work 9-5pm at my family’s company, Cedar’s Mediterranean Foods, Inc., where I am the Creative Content and Marketing Specialist. As soon as I am done at Cedar’s, I head to the gym where I usually take a spin, yoga, or HIIT class. Taking an hour to spend working out allows for more productivity and creativity! I then head home, eat a healthy dinner, and get right back into working on my blog, sometimes working until 11pm at night. Then it’s sleep and repeat!
TELL US ABOUT YOUR BLOG, SPARKLE IN GOLD. WHAT INITIALLY INSPIRED YOU TO START IT? WAS THERE A CERTAIN EVENT/MOMENT YOU KNEW YOU WANTED TO DO IT?
The inspiration for my blog has two parts. The first stems from a place of not feeling “content” of where I was in life. I had just graduated from college as a Fashion and Public Relations Major, moved back home, and started working with my family. Was I happy? Yes, very, but I wasn’t following my dream of working in the fashion industry, and that began to eat away at me until I knew I had to start something, somehow. My love for fashion stemmed from the first time I watched “Devil’s Wears Prada” with my mom. Being the only daughter in my family, you would always find me dressing up and putting together all kinds of outfits to showcase to my family members. I also loved to write. I remember writing novel after novel, most of them only a couple pages long, finding that sharing stories made me feel so alive.
I had originally created Sparkle in Gold as a jewelry company, creating bracelets and earrings that were sold on Esty and at Boston art vendor markets. Though I loved and still love to make jewelry, I found that it wasn’t fulfilling enough to continue, and decided to stop making it after a few months of starting.
Though I was crushed to find that my first “entrepreneur” endeavor did not work out, I was determined to figure out something that would. Through creating jewelry, I loved making women feel pretty, and I still wanted to do that in some way. I saw Sparkle in Gold as a chance to help other women find their ‘inner sparkle’- something I was still trying to find myself. I wanted to be a source of inspiration for women through fashion and lifestyle, and that is where the idea to start a blog came about. My dreams of being a writer, working in fashion, and being my own girl-boss finally came to be through my blog, Sparkle in Gold.
YOU CURRENTLY LIVE IN BOSTON. HOW DO YOU SPEND YOUR FREE TIME?
My girlfriends and I love meeting up after work for cocktails and appetizers! One of our favorite places is Committee in the Seaport district. We also love taking walks through Back Bay, especially in the amazing New England weather we have been having! On Sundays, my boyfriend and I love heading to Sowa Open Market in Ink Block, where there are tents full of entrepreneurs and artists selling their handcrafted work, or we head down to Cape Cod and take a ferry to Nantucket for the weekend!
WHAT OBSTACLES HAVE YOU FACED IN YOUR CAREER? HOW DID YOU OVERCOME THEM?
Working a full-time job with having another full-time job as a blogger has it’s many challenges. For one, I feel like I am always working, and constantly feel I don’t have enough time for everything in my life. To overcome such anxiety, making a plan for my day is key. Each day is different, so focusing on what I have to accomplish day to day goes a long way. I’m all about lists, but also believed writing down everything you have completed at the end of the day is a great way to give yourself credit for all you have accomplished!
HOW DO YOU REPRESENT THE TRAIT FUN-LOVING?
I live from my heart! I am a very hard-working, kind, and passionate person. Everything I do and every person I meet, I love fully with my whole heart. I always fill my life with fun moments with those closest to me. If it doesn’t feel right in my heart, I don’t do it.
HOW DOES YOUR FUN-LOVING PERSONALITY RUB OFF ON OTHERS?
My family and friends always joke that I am the nicest person they know. No, I’m not a pushover in any sense! I just live to love! I feel like my caring and positive personality allows those closest to me to feel loved, and return want them to have the same loving attitude towards life as well.
WHAT DO YOU LOVE MOST ABOUT WHERE YOU ARE IN LIFE RIGHT NOW?
Looking at where I was a couple years ago to where I am now, I am so proud of how much I have grown and accomplished. I am still at the beginning and know I have a lot to create to get to where I want to be, but I love the process and know it is all falling into place. I am so grateful for everyday and all those that support me from family, friends, and followers!
ASIDE FROM BEING FUN-LOVING, WHAT ARE THREE OTHER PERSONALITY TRAITS THAT DESCRIBE YOURSELF AND HOW SO?
I am a dreamer at heart. I believe your dreams (or goals) are so important to follow in order to achieve what you want. No dream is too small nor big, and I strive my life on accomplishing those dreams I have.
I am loyal. Being a caring, loving person it’s no surprise I’m a natural loyalist!! Relationships are very important to me, and being a supportive person to all those closest to me is so crucial. Loyalty also plays into my life in terms of being loyal to myself and what I need/want in life.
Creative! All those two-page novels I wrote as a young girl stemmed from some creative part of me! My love for anything creative fuels me and makes me love what I do so much.
WHAT ARE YOUR HOPES AND DREAMS? WHERE DO YOU SEE YOURSELF IN FIVE YEARS FROM NOW?
I want to be a source of inspiration to women of all ages. I want Sparkle in Gold to become a platform of women to go to for fashion, beauty, lifestyle, love, health, and inspiration. I want to travel the world, work with great brands, and meet amazing people. In five years, I see myself as a wife, mother, and full-time girl boss of her own brand.
WHAT’S YOUR BIGGEST PIECE OF ADVICE FOR FUN-LOVING GIRLS LIKE YOURSELF?
Love and laugh every single day. You just never know how much a warm smile can impact someone else’s day!
